For the Fall/Winter Fashion Season TREND underwent a METAMORPHOSIS
APPROACH
I wanted to approach the theme of METAMORPHOSIS by talking about the cyclical nature of change and introspection. I had a pessimistic take on METAMORPHOSIS, although change is important and inevitable, I wanted to talk about the hardships of the transition in identity. The hatred of the past, disdain for the present and fear of the future.
CONCEPT
The concept was to show a slow transition of a beginning form to a fully realized/recognized person. I wanted to layer multiple photos on top of another and as the series progressed the subjects would become more clear. To contribute to that idea of progression I wanted to show the horn also grow as the series progresses, again pushing the idea of change.
CHALLENGES
This was my first organized photoshoot that I have done, previously most of my photoshoots would have been done spontaneously and the ideas were created day of. This would also be the first time I had a photoshoot that was this large (6 models!), so time framing the event was a big challenge learning on the spot. Working with the horns proved to be a big challenge, we had to apply the makeup on-site because of time constraints, an issue arose where the horn was too heavy for the special effects makeup to work and the wind proved to be a bigger issue than we had originally thought.
EXECUTION
I shoot exclusively through analog photography. In total we had 2 locations, 6 Models, 2 Stylists, and 1 Photographer (yours truly ;p). Again, this was the first organized photoshoot that I had ever been a part of and it had definitely taught me a lot. We had our first shoot at the local beach, all the black background photos were taken outdoors using a single studio light to highlight the models. It was 50 degrees Fahrenheit with the tide slowly getting higher, so it was a race with time. We were able to get 6 shots per model at the beach location then continued the other shots (the ones with the green toned background) at our second location an apartment with a nice heater and entertainment (Fortnite).
